For your needs, I would recommend a rss posting bot. I use it on my family forum http://www.distads.com to post news and other stuff off the net. It is a mod in development over at http://www.phpbb.com It's very easy to use and only requires a few initial edits to get it going. the link to the mod topic is http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=829325 read up on it, there is a lot of useful information in there. To sum this up, if you post in your blog you set the post bot to pull your blog post using rss and it posts it in your forum. Hope this takes care of what you need, as simply as possible.

Thanks for that, is exactly what I want.

But I now have a problem. Because of the pretty shoddy mod instructions, I edited phpbb_config and I want to delete the values and redo them. I can't find a way to...

Sorry for muffing this thread, but it'd help me a heap. :)

the instructions for what mod are you referring to? If you want to undo something you did, just look at the install instructions for any mod in question and reverse what you are looking for. In the instructions where it says "replace with" or "add after" etc, that is what you want to search for and just do the opposite of what the mod instructions say to revert the file to its pre-edited state. example. if the instructions say:

find
blah blah

replace with hippity dippity

you will instead want to find "hippity dippity" and replace it with "blah blah"

hope this makes sense, if not give me a bit more info and I will gladly help you out.

Thanks. :)

It's for the lastRSS mod. I ended up fixing the problem, but now after following all instructions I am getting no output. Don't know what's up. :(

It sometimes takes a while for it to get the initial batch of updates. Also, do you know if your hosting provider supports fopen or curl? additionally, in the db settings you can set the next update to 0 to insure it attempts to update the next time that page is called. It is a bit funky at times, but if you read through the entire thread there are fixes for most issues listed in there. the mod author was away for a bit but is back now and has been very supportive. he is working on a updated release, just not sure when that will happen. If I can assist you in any way don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks so much. You've already been such a huge help! :D

I'm still not getting any output but. Hosting does support cURL and has it enabled. I changed that value to 0 per the phpBB mod thread. Still no dice.

Should I just post (on blog with RSS) something and wait? For how long? The user bot who posts is an admin too. I'm stumped.

I have seen it at times take a day to start working correctly, if you are waiting longer than that there may be something afoul in the settings or configuration. The feed you are pulling from is your rss from your forum correct? did you change the cURL settings in the mod configuration? (i made that mistake once and had it set wrong) I would also advise trying another feed to just see if there is something wrong with your feed (currently the mod is picky about how they are formatted) I use several feeds from fox and cnn news on my site and know they work, also the onion.com works. If there is anything I can do to help you out don't hesitate to ask.

That is my feed. Are there problems with that? Sorry, would you prefer we moved these to PM's so it doesn't ruin this thread? :D

i'll look at it, and honestly Id rather keep everything in this thread, you never know how many times someone else may be helped by reading what others went through to get things working. There may be others who want to do the same thing as you do :-)

ok, i looked at your feed. It uses [CDATA] tags everywhere, in the mod authors posting for lastrss autopost bot he confirms his mod currently does not handle cdata correctly, it ignores it. So, what I would recommend you try is to go to fireburner and set up an account there, then pull your blog posts into there, then use the feedburner feed in the mod to post to your forum. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but as far as I know this is about the only option currently. Also, may want to ask smix what he thinks as I am sure he has dealt with the a ton of times.
